Immu-Proctor®
Aquaculture
The current intensive aquaculture practices expose peneid and fish to severe microbial challenge. Heavy contamination of housing premises by facultatively pathogenic microorganisms often result in lower performance and serious diseases affecting mostly young animals (larval and fingerling stages) which are known to be most susceptible to infections. Microorganisms attack first and foremost the digestive tract which becomes massively infected by various environmental bacteria during each feeding, transportation and temperature changes.
The most frequently occurring causative agents of low production are viruses (baculovirus, rotaviruses) and pathogenic bacteria, such as Vibrio paraemolyticus, V. alginolyticus and Pseudomonas aureaginosa . Often both viruses and bacteria are involved in the development of general disorders. Viruses entering the digestive tract penetrate into surface cells of the intestinal mucosa, propagate and finally destroy the attacked cells completely. Bacteria propagate on the cell surface only, form a continuous lining and produce toxins which induce inflammatory reactions and increased fluid secretion into the intestinal contents. Their action results in clinical manifestations of mild, moderate, or severe infections and diarrhea.
New aquaculture practices, which in many aspects disregard physiological requirements are often responsible for functional impairments of protective mechanisms of shrimp and fish. In the past, all efforts to compensate chronic deficiency of protective immunoglobulins in egg, colostrums and milk came across technological problems. Only recently, the technology of commercial production of specific antibodies acting against the most dangerous intestinal pathogenic agents attacking animals has been mastered.
The Neo-Glucan® Technology is based on the fact that laying hens store immunoglobulins in egg yolk to provide chicks with the necessary initial protection, a suitable vaccination scheme can induce a “programme change” making the hen produce specific immunoglobulins to enteropathogenic agents attacking animals.
The Immu-Proctor® products are manufactured by Matura Tech Inc., using the Neo-Glucan® Technology. The product contain dried egg mass with antibodies to facultative pathogenic intestinal microorganisms, colostrum from bovines free of infections for best immune response and a probiotic pack. The egg antibodies enhance natural local intestinal and compensate possible insufficiency, while the probiotic system accelerates the colonization by symbiotic microorganisms and stabilizes the composition of the intestinal microbial population.
Mechanism of action:
The stimulatory and protective of Immu-Proctor® consists in marked enhancement of intestinal immunity initial stages in the most critical phase of their development. Specific antibodies present in the product in high concentrations bind in the intestine to the surface of pathogenic agents and thus block the attachment to intestinal cells and destructive effects of dangerous viruses and pathogenic bacteria. By a similar mechanism, the antibodies inactivate some bacterial toxins. The multiple strain pack rapidly colonizes the intestinal mucosa and assists in the establishment of a natural symbiotic biocenosis characterized by a strong protective effect. The combined action of the two active components of Immu-proctor® can compensate the insufficiency of natural local immunity developing very frequently in all species. The administration of Immu-proctor® leads to higher resistance of the host against endogenous microbial challenge.
