Temperature

Temperature strongly influences the biological and chemical processes in the shrimp pond environment.  In subtropical areas, pond temperatures may change seasonally and shrimp growth will bi reduce  when the water temperatures cools. Thermal stratification can occur in deeper areas of the pond, particularly if water currents or mixing devices are not used.  Low oxygen conditions may occur in the cooler, deeper waters of stratified ponds.

Thermometers should be checked at least twice a year against a calibrated thermometer to insure accuracy. Temperature data loggers can be deployed and periodically retrieved as an aid in developing temperature profiles in pond systems.
