Necrotizing Hepatopancreatitis

Caused by a gram-negative intracellular bacteria attacking cells of hepatopancreas. This disease named NHP usually occurs when salinity drops 10 ppt when media is contaminated.

Symptoms

  1. Feed consumption is reduced.
  2. Poor growth rate.
  3. Soft skeleton causing weakness and slow death.
  4. Inflammation of hepatopancreas turning pale to view.

Mode of Transmission
Nowadays is under discussion NHP mode of transmission but exposing animal to these predominant pathogenic bacteria could be avoided following good aquaculture farming practices.

Diagnosis
During NHP intracellular bacterial infection, shrimp’s disease parameters can be established following histopathology analysis using an electron microscopy in infected tissue.

Control
Is considered a successful tool for mortality reduction following lab test for NHP the use of oxytetracycline medication in pelleted feed  at rates of 2.0 grams pure drug per kg of feed. Early detection contributes to prevent high mortality rates and pond recovery. In recent years, PROBIOTICS for NHP control have gained customers for disease prevention in hatchery and growing stages. Consider fermentation and feed treatment of Aquaplex®  a probiotic tool for disease prevention and pond care. Once into water healthful bacteria present in product (13 strains of specific beneficial microorganisms plus nutrients) inhibit intracellular, Vibrio and other pathogens reducing losses and stabilizing intestinal flora. Prevention treatment combined with Immuproctor® into feed leads to stimulation of immune system and gut protection blocking colonization of harmful bacteria.
